PENGARUH IRADIASI GAMMA TERHADAP KEMAMPUAN KAWIN DAN BERBIAK LALAT BUAH BACTROCERA CARAMBOLAE (DREW & HANCOCK)

Sterile fruit flies to be released in the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) control programme may be obtained by irradiation of the pupae. In order to observed the effect of irradiation on the capacity of B. carambolae fruit flies to mate and reproduce, male irradiated flies were paired with normal female, and female irradiated with normal male. In each pairing, number of successful matings, and number eggs produced (fecundity) and fertility the eggs were recorded. The results showed that the mating capacity of the irradiated flies of both sexes reduced from 100 percent (control) to between 90 – 80 percent in adults emerged from pupae irradiated with 30 – 120 Gy

Sejumlah besar serangga hasil biakan diperlukan terutama untuk dimandulkan dan dilepas di lapang dalam pengendalian hama dengan teknik serangga mandul. Di Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan Teknologi Isotop dan Radiasi (P3TIR), telah berhasil dikembangkan teknik pembiakan massal lalat buah Bactrocera carambolae (Drew & Hancock), yang mampu menghasilkan jutaan kepompong setiap generasi. Lalat dewasa kira-kira 100 ekor, berasal dari 2 liter kepompong, dipelihara dalam kurungan 70 x 70 x 125 cm dengan makanan gula dan hidrolisat ragi. Telur dipanen dengan cara memasang botol plastik pengumpul telur pada kurungan, hasilnya diinokulasikan pada makanan buatan larva yang terbuat dari campuran

LALAT BUAH BACTROCERA CARAMBOLAE (DREW & HANCOCK) DAN B. PAPAYAE (DREW & HANCOCK) DALAM BEBERAPA JENIS BUAH DI INDONESIA

PAPAYAE (DREW & HANCOCK) IN MANY DIFFERENT FUITS IN INDONESIA. The close taxonomic relationship between the symphatric species of Bactrocera carambolae (Drew & Hancock) and B. papayae (Drew & Hancock) make the population of the two species closely intermingle in the field of fruit orchard. Difference in host preference of the two species to several kinds of fruit were observed by recording the ratio of the number of adults flies of each species emerged from infested star fruit, mango, guava, rose apple, red pepper, kecapi and melinjo fruits collected from several localities in West and East Java. The data showed that star fruit was attacked more by B. carambolae, mango by B.

The fruit production center developed in many provinces in Indonesia is facing a serious problems of fruit fly pests, mainly of Bactrocera dorsalis complex, consisting of B. carambolae (Drew & Hancock) and B. papayae. An appropriate measure to control fruit fly pests, capable of dispersing long distance, in a hundrets hectare of production center, by using an area-wide intergated pest managemant (AW-IPM), integrating the sterile insect technique (SIT) with other compatible methode. To make the program possible to be applied in Indonesia , the following researchs have been carried out: population dynamic observation of the pests in the field, estimation of population density, mass rearing and radio-sterilization of the Bactrcer
